Synopsis
Memento tells the fractured story of Leonard Shelby, a man condemned by his short-term memory loss to endlessly search for his wife’s killer. Unable to make new memories, Leonard Shelby relies on a system of handwritten notes, polaroid photos, and intricate tattoos to track the clues he believes will lead him to “John G.”
The film’s narrative is masterfully presented in two interwoven threads: one in color that moves backward in time, and another in black and white that moves forward. This structure forces the audience to experience Leonard’s disorientation and confusion firsthand. As he pieces together the truth, the line between fact and fabrication blurs, leading to a shocking conclusion that recontextualizes everything. Memento is a brilliant, puzzle-box thriller that explores the fragile nature of memory, truth, and revenge.
